NWR Etosha National Park Olifantsrus

About - Olifantsrus is the newest tourist camp in Etosha National Park and the first accommodation option in the park to offer a camping-only experience. This allows guests to feel that little bit closer to the incredible African bush all around them.

Situated in the wilder, more remote, and previously less-utilised western section of the park, Olifantsrus is approximately:

  • 60 km from Galton Gate
  • 130 km from Okaukuejo
  • 50 km from Dolomite Camp

Day Visitor Facilities - The picturesque picnic facilities at Olifantsrus are open to day visitors until 16h00, allowing just enough time for guests to reach the Galton Gate before the park closes at sunset. Day visitors will need to pay an entry fee at the reception upon entering Olifanstrus.

Additional amenities available to guests include:

  • An information centre
  • A kiosk selling drinks and light meals

Important Notes:

  • There are no braai facilities for campers, only flat bases for making a fire. Guests must bring their own grill for cooking if required.

Wildlife Viewing & The Olifantsrus Hide - One of the key attractions of Olifantsrus Campsite is the state-of-the-art double-storey hide overlooking a man-made waterhole. This waterhole has become particularly popular with elephants, hence the camp’s name, Olifantsrus (which translates as Elephant’s Rest).

Engineered for peaceful game viewing, this unusual hide is a double story building (hut) with aluminium glasses around it overlooking the waterhole.

As far as general game viewing is concerned, rare and shy species such as black rhino and black-faced impala are well-established in this quieter part of Etosha Park.
