About - Located along Namibia's Skeleton Coast, approximately 34 km south of the Ugab entrance gate to the Skeleton Coast National Park, Mile 108 offers visitors the raw beauty of the Atlantic Ocean without the need to pay daily park fees. This remote destination is renowned for its pristine beaches and is a favoured spot among fishing enthusiasts.
Accommodation - Mile 108 offers various options, including beach camping with 170 sites sharing communal ablutions, self-contained camping with private ablutions, and private ablution campsites featuring a braai area and basic amenities. For a more sheltered stay, Fisherman’s Cabins provide simple huts with a braai, storage, and basic facilities, overlooking the beach.
Facilities - At the reception area, guests can access cell phone signal and patchy Wi-Fi. A basic shop offers snacks, water, sodas, juice, and beer. For storing fish, there are three communal freezers available on a first-come, first-served basis. The entire campsite operates on solar power, and water is heated by a donkey boiler system. Please note that there are no electrical plugs at any of the campsites or huts.
Activities - Fishing is the primary attraction at Mile 108, with the area being home to a large variety of fish such as surf sharks and kabeljou. Visitors are encouraged to bring all necessary fishing gear, as there are no shops selling angling equipment on-site. In addition, excursions to nearby attractions such as the Cape Cross Seal Colony, lichen fields, shipwrecks, and the Messum Volcanic Crater can be arranged. For the more adventurous, quad-biking tours, water sports, and eco-friendly tours into the Namib Desert are available.
